Bicycle Tornado
Categories: Art, Bicycles

Bicycle Tornado is a sculpture by artist Christopher Fennell.

I wanted to build a tornado out of old houses. (I still do!) While in line waiting to vote, I started up this conversation with one of the vice presidents of the university. I said tornado, she said Wizard of Oz. I paused and gaped; “I am going to build a tornado out of bicycles!”

Of course, I had to look through the scuplture to see if he had used any good bikes. Part of me would hate to see a classic Italian racing bike or something rendered unrideable, even in the name of art.

  1. Actually did use a few expensive bicycle frames, but they were damaged beyond repair when they were donated. Glad you like the tornado…I am working on three leaves out of 1000 lawn mower blades right now in Maine. Trying to beat the snow!
